Choosing a vacation spot is an important task. Searching through all those websites, trying to imagine what you and your family might like. Looking for the one place that'll meet your needs like no other. It’s so easy to make a mistake in your selection. However, here we are talking about St. Simons Island, one of the last stops on the way to getaway heaven, and Sea Gift, a classic, true beach view cottage. Yes, it is in a fantastic part of the world. Yes, it has lovely vistas and furnishings. And, yes, its owners will be sure to go the extra mile to make you happy.

This unique house boasts a 12x23 private pool and three generous porches all with amazing views. Built in 1994 by the previous owners, it has all modern amenities, including vistas to the south and west of fellow Golden Isles--—for example, for example, Jekyll (of millionaire getaway fame), and Cumberland’s legendary wilderness appeal, and ocean, ocean everywhere.

The owners bought Sea Gift recently and also sold their condo 5 minutes down the beach at Seaview, so many of their lovely furnishings will seem familiar to previous condo renters who would not be surprised that Sea Gift is furnished just the way you would your home — no “cheap beach” feel anywhere: We mean plantation shutters, great mattresses, appealing artwork and attractive objets throughout. Airy and light-filled, it has ambience and views pictures can only suggest. But maybe, as the owners like to say, “the best décor is out the front door.”

Be assured that the living room, dining room, kitchen, first-floor master bedroom, all have those views. Even the back deck where you will want to take your morning coffee and laze over evening meals has it, too. (The large pantry/laundry by the kitchen overlooks the pool, palms, and garden below. .) The master is on the first floor, tucked away in the southeast corner of the house with its own fine views across the porch, king bed, two walk-in closets and large bath with both tub and separate shower.

Upstairs, the second-floor is not slighted either: the southeast bedroom, with bunkbeds, queen sleep sofa, and the lovely sea-blue middle bedroom with a queen both look directly out on the ocean to the south. PLUS the latter has glass doors leading out to the upper porch deck. Spanning the width of the house, this is an amazing retreat in the cool of the evening perfect for surf (try it during a full moon and high tide) and stargazing.

The third, southwest bedroom , with a queen bed and a comfy swivel chair to facilitate conversation, reading and ocean daydreaming, has its own generous views to the south and west from both windows, and its own bath.

All the bedrooms have TVs with DVD players and huge closets as well.

Besides the breathtaking views and great location, just down from the King and Prince Hotel, and still near to the Village, there is beach access directly across the way at 5th Street. East Beach is a handy bike ride or stroll up the beach. And you can easily walk at low tide west to St. Simons Village, a charming locale bustling with shops, restaurants and activities on the Pier. If you continue on, past the Pier and Butler, you’ll hear the bagpiper playing at dusk at the Sea Island Lodge from the sands (or the front entrance if you have a member card).

Up Beachview in the other direction, the King and Prince Hotel has a great beachfront café and restaurant. Or visit Ocean Motion clothing shop and bike rentals, Crabdaddy and the laid-back Beachcomber restaurants, gift shops. That way you’ll also find Massengale Park and the big wide beach at the old Coast Guard station.
